End Your Addiction Now Book

by Gant on August 31, 2009

The new book is now available.

Here is the write up from the publisher about the book:

Whether it is to alcohol, drugs, smoking, or food, addiction is an overwhelming and destructive force that negatively impacts the lives of those in its grip. While there are programs galore that promise an end to these dependencies, the truth is, far too many “reformed” addicts fall right back into their old habits.

Because powerful biochemical factors override the psychological will to quit.

End Your Addiction Now is a unique book that not only explores the real cause of this recurring problem, but also offers a proven biochemical approach that can break addiction once and for all.

Written in easy-to-understand language, End Your Addiction Now is based upon the extensive research and medical practice of Dr. Charles Gant and other pioneers in the field of orthomolecular medicine. It both guides readers to physicians and facilities that support a biochemical approach to the treatment of substance-use disorders, and provides step-by-step directions for those who want to quit their addictions on their own.

At the heart of Dr. Gant’s approach is a unique “Quick-Start” program of nutritional supplements. After completing a questionnaire to determine which key brain chemical disruptions are causing their substance cravings, moods, and behaviors, readers are given a targeted list of nutritional supplements designed to jump-start their recovery–supplements that help reduce cravings within twenty-four to seventy-two hours.

The book then walks readers through a natural process of detoxification and additional biochemical testing to establish a complete biochemical profile.

Finally, it addresses the specific nutritional deficiencies that must be addressed for a full psychological and spiritual recovery.

I’m in a state of shock – your program has killed my interest, and cravings for alcohol within 24 hours. I’m starting at a low dose, taken with meals, of your suggested aminos and vitamins and will work up to a higher dose, taken before meals to ensure I’m getting all I need for the long haul. I’ve experienced a bit of upset tummy so going slow. I’m just so pleased! I thought about having a drink before dinner last night but just was not that interested so I didn’t!!!!! What a wonderful feeling – as I used to think about having a glass around 3 and would wait and wait anxiously until 5!!!! I love this!! No white knuckles and no desperate will power. I’m telling all who will listen about this approach. Thank you thank you thank you.

I’ve personally read this book, and I give it 5-stars. Absolute easy read that helps anyone in the community spread the message for themselves or loved ones. Thanks Charles.

Dr. Gant’s work with amino acids for mental wellness and the treatment of addictions described in his book “Ending Your Addiction Now” has become an important component of my treatment protocols and the health of my patients. His latest work utilizing mindfulness for the activation of the brain’s production of those same amino acids is evolutionary!

Christian Monk November 9, 2013 at 10:10 pm

Good afternoon Dr. Gant,

I am a Christian monk of more than 2 decades. However, I am not typical of most Christian monks. A close friend with Naval Intelligence claims I am a hybrid of special ops and free agency. My work has taken me to some very dangerous locations and situations on 3 continents, always unarmed and often with no support for backup.

Unfortunately, those situations eventually led me into alcoholism, freely available in most parts of the world, especially the older Christian countries of the Balkans and the Anatolian plateau. Alcohol is part of the Christian Church culture from those regions. I had little experience with alcohol outside of my late teens and early 20’s.

After returning to the States more permanently for continuing graduate studies in Boston and the Midwest, I gradually brought alcohol under modest control through Alcoholics Anonymous. But, I was still highly vulnerable to binges, usually after a crisis has been solved and the pressure is off. I rarely drink under pressure.

Eventually, I purchased your book “End Your Addiction Now” in early 2010 as I relocated to the Midwest after studies on the East Coast, but only read the book last month. It didn’t quite fit the AA literature and I was concerned about distracting myself from active recovery. However, I did concentrate on better nutrition, since this came under my own control, once again. I noticed that my attraction to alcohol would diminish or disappear for weeks and months at time, while taking TwinLab Cher-Amino Predigested Collagen Protein.

Still, I continue to relapse and the effects of alcohol are growing worse as I reach middle age.

Interestingly, just before entering the monastery in the early 90’s, I began an intense physical fitness campaign complete with over-the-counter amino acids, minerals, vitamins and a handful of very informative books from GNC. I had rarely felt better–no agitation, no anxiety, no tendency toward anger. And, I quit smoking rather easily, even in an apartment with 2 roommates who continued to smoke.

I could not have access to those series of nutrients once in the monastery, but the diet is very simple and sound, high in fiber and no meat (though fish was permitted at times during the year). So, my system remained in good order.

That changed when I departed for Europe and the Near East in early 2001. The diet is very different due to poverty and we ate whatever was available, including a return to meat after more than a decade. Within 6-12 months, I felt alcohol was becoming a problem. But those cultures regard alcoholism quite differently, if they regard it all.

Just after a recent lapse in September, I came across your book in the downstairs library. Because of my experience with aminos in the early 90’s, a glimpse through the Table of Contents placed the book high on my reading list. I think I finished the book in a few sittings over the course of 2 days.

Incidentally, from your brief exams my scores are indicated below:

Catecholamine: 3
Serotonin: 17
GABA: 10
Endorphin/ Enkephalin: 9

I immediately arranged for a medical exam, organized a list of the recommended ingredients addressing my deficiencies and started your Power Recovery Program. I returned to a high-fiber diet with only fish as meat protein. Results were already being realized within a week. Anger and anxieties disappeared, sound sleep returned. The urge for alcohol disappeared within 48-72 hours.

Thank you for your book. Without my previous experiences with aminos and their effects, I may not have identified with your book at all. I have already begun to recommend your titles to several I know working in family counseling and substance abuse.

I have also just received a copy of your book on ADHD. It seems we may have a genetic weakness–my mother suffered for nearly a decade under prescription psychotropics and my nephew is diagnosed with ADHD. I don’t know the ingredients, but he is on administered medication. I told my sister-in-law about the book and will send the copy out. She is open to anything that may help her son.

A thankful Christian monk

C.E. Gant November 9, 2013 at 11:03 pm

Thank you Father for sharing your story. I realized early in my addictionology career, like Bill Wilson and his experiences with the benefits of niacin, that a genetic and biophysical basis must be addressed (and non-pharmacologically) in many before an enduring recovery is established. In the last 10 years, this paradigm has broadened, and the latest PET and fMRI brain scans have shown us that: 1) The experience of compassion, forgiveness, gratitude and empathy (for oneself and others) is only possible if an individual has intact and functioning prefrontal lobes and; 2) A genetic and biochemical basis for dysfunctional prefrontal brain activity precludes many an individual from walking the spiritual path despite their efforts. Not that we aren’t so beautifully designed that many don’t find that path anyway. So my work now is merely preparatory, to help my patients recover enough of their marbles so that they can then discover their real purpose for being here, to love and be loved, and then I encourage them to open their hearts (actually exercise their prefrontal lobes) and get to work on it. I am so glad you have laid the foundation now for a sustainable recovery and that in your calling I am sure many will reap the benefits of your most important work. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be of assistance.
