Dr Gant is Chairman and Chief Medical Officer of Functional Medicine Studies at The Academy of Functional Medicine and Genomics. He stated “most functional medicine teaching approaches take a bottom up approach. The Academy, however, utilizes a top down strategy instead, emphasizing the command control center (the brain)”.
Dr Gant is starting a new Clinically-Focused course in August that requires students to present more case studies in order to gain a practical knowledge of the application of functional medicine and genomic testing in the treatment of various chronic medical, psychological and psychiatric disorders. This course will be expected to expand the scope of knowledge and practice for chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physicians, dentists, nurses, psychiatrists, osteopaths, physical therapists, energetic medicine practitioners, and other practitioners of complementary and alternative modalities.
Included in these Clinically-Focused courses will be the usual functional medicine and genomic education (the “soup”), the neurofeedback and qEEG mapping and entrainment coursework (the “sparks”), and an introduction to mindfulness-based psychotherapies.
