Basic Concepts in Integrative, Complementary & Alternative Medicine

Integrative Medicine is inclusive of all of the healing arts, all of medicine, psychiatry and psychology.

It is a mix of all that conventional medicine, psychology and psychiatry has to offer with all that alternative or non-conventional medicine or CAM (complementary/alternative medicine), and psychology has to offer.

No subspecialty, in either the conventional or non-conventional/alternative areas is held to be more valid or deserving of a voice than any other, regardless of the research or body of knowledge that supports any one area.

Some of the things you will learn include:

* Four modes of Integrative Medicine Treatment
* Essential nutrients
* 10 kinds of “good stuff”
* 6 kinds of “bad stuff”
* The five “Rs”
* Gant’s Law
* Gant’s Disorder
* and more

End Your Addiction Now

Whether it is to alcohol, drugs, smoking, or food, addiction is an overwhelming and destructive force that negatively impacts the lives of those in its grip. While there are programs galore that promise an end to these dependencies, the truth is, far too many “reformed” addicts fall right back into their old habits.

Because powerful biochemical factors override the psychological will to quit.

End Your Addiction Now is a unique book that not only explores the real cause of this recurring problem, but also offers a proven biochemical approach that can break addiction once and for all.

Written in easy-to-understand language, End Your Addiction Now is based upon the extensive research and medical practice of Dr. Gant and other pioneers in the field of orthomolecular medicine. It both guides readers to physicians and facilities that support a biochemical approach to the treatment of substance-use disorders, and provides step-by-step directions for those who want to quit their addictions on their own.

At the heart of Dr. Gant’s approach is a unique “Quick-Start” program of nutritional supplements. After completing a questionnaire to determine which key brain chemical disruptions are causing their substance cravings, moods, and behaviors, readers are given a targeted list of nutritional supplements designed to jump-start their recovery–supplements that help reduce cravings within twenty-four to seventy-two hours.

The book then walks readers through a natural process of detoxification and additional biochemical testing to establish a complete biochemical profile.

Finally, it addresses the specific nutritional deficiencies that must be addressed for a full psychological and spiritual recovery.

Grand Unified Theory of Mind/Brain Function

After nearly 4 decades of practicing complementary/alternative, integrative and holistic medicine and psychiatry, and carefully assessing (and “curing”) many thousands of patients with in-depth, functional medicine testing and genomics (gene testing), I am happy to present the culmination of my life’s work – The Grand Unified Theory of Mind/Brain Function.

The philosophical approach to my work and research has always been science based, and I have tended to downplay proposed panaceas for the world’s ills as poppycock. After all, the human being is composed of roughly 200 trillion cells, each having 50 million chemical reactions per second. We have 6 feet of DNA per cell, which if unraveled and stretched out and connected end-to-end, calculates to 10s of billions of miles of DNA per person. When malfunctioning, how could anything so marvelous and complex be reduced to simplistic notions of one cure fits all. Panaceas are extraordinary claims and they must be supported by extraordinary evidence to be taken seriously.

For the first time in my life, I may have found the panacea. I say “may have” since it has only taken one ugly fact to destroy the most beautiful theories ever proposed. But so far, The Grand Unified Theory of Mind/Brain Function appears to subsume all approaches to healing within one model. And all attempts to discover fatal flaws in this model have so far failed. But I invite your skeptical critique and feedback. If anything appears to be out of alignment with my extraordinary claim, which by the way comes with extraordinary supportive scientific evidence, please contact me.

For now, may you enjoy a feast upon these truths. (20 concepts)

Breast Cancer – 2 Part Series

Part 1

Dr. Gant and Dr. Bruce Rind present up to date information in this series.

Dr. Rind will discuss Breast Thermography, a diagnostic technique which detects heat in the breast and may provide years of advanced warning of breast cancer far before mammography can discern a problem. At this point, there are things you can do to lower the heat in the breast before anything were to develop.

Part 2

Prevention via diagnostic testing of carcinogenic, estrogen metabolites, especially important for women who use hormone therapies, will be addressed.

The Lorraine Day approach to breast cancer and her Ten Steps to Fight Cancer will provide a good summary of the topics above and also address the psychoimmunological benefits of having a spiritual approach.

Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Prostate Cancer

Studies will be presented suggesting that certain important risk factors, such as cadmium toxicity, should be tested for and addressed to prevent prostate cancer. The importance of providing all the options for patients, not just conventional or non-conventional ones, will be discussed so that informed patients are empowered to make the choices they feel are best for them.

An herbal technology of suppressing prostate cancer will be presented, as well as other promising approaches. The studies suggesting the benefit of nutritional therapies while simultaneously undergoing conventional therapies will be critiqued.

The similarities and differences between the preventative, diagnostic and treatment approaches to various cancers are summarized and questions answered from the participants.

Integrative Medicine Approach to Hardening of the Arteries and Cardiovascular Disease

Dr. Gant will first review the basis for all chronic disease and disorders, the 12 kinds of dysautonomia or stress. Blood vessels are living tissues and are always subject to degeneration from at least 4 of these 12 stressors, allergic, infectious, metabolic, and oxidative stress, and regeneration potential can be enhanced with various interventions which reduce the 8 commonly known “risk factors” (e.g., cholesterol, hypertension, smoking etc.) and also at least 25 additional risk factors (CRP, Lp(a), fibrinogen, homocysteine etc.).

These risk factors are related to stressors and can be reversed or modified. Genetic testing for cardiovascular disorders to eliminate some of the vulnerabilities to these stressor risk factors will be reviewed. Finally, cognitive/emotional stress will be addressed by experiencing a few exercises which can be practiced on a daily basis.

Autoimmune Disorders

Over 80 autoimmune diseases exist and as a group they are very common. Autoimmune disorders arise from an overactive immune response against substances and tissues normally present in the body. In other words, the body actually attacks its own cells and tissues by mistaking some part of the body as a pathogen (germ) and attacking it.

The different names for various autoimmune disorders depend on what organ or part of the body the somewhat fickle immune system decides to attack (e.g., attack on the joints is called rheumatoid arthritis, the thyroid is called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis etc.).

The conventional medicine treatment of autoimmune diseases typically involves immunosuppression – medication which decreases the immune response.

The alternative approach is to determine with laboratory testing where in the body the immune system is challenged, correct that problem, and remove the immune system’s reason to be so aggressive.

Both approaches are often needed for a comprehensive, integrative approach.

Autoimmune stress, like any of the 12 kinds of stress often referred to in this series of educational workshops, can cause severe fatigue, burnout and psychological dysfunction.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is actually caused by hypomethylation of the fight-flight neurotransmitter noradrenalin and deficiencies in certain fight/flight modifying stress hormones and neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, GABA and enkephalins. Understanding the actual biochemical risk factors of PTSD can point to logical and effective drug therapies with relatively non-addictive substances.

Unfortunately, little understanding of the science underlying PTSD has entered mainstream medicine and psychiatry, and those suffering from PTSD are treated with useless, addictive, brain-injurious psychiatric medications, which merely provide gateways into more serious cycles of addiction and ultimately death. PTSD victims are also treated with virtually useless supportive and re-educative psychotherapies instead of authentic cognitive and mindfulness-based, reconstructive psychotherapies.

This webinar will provide the solution for PTSD and provide listeners with contacts to assist those suffering from PTSD with access to authentic healing methodologies.

4 Part Series on Depression, Anxiety, Burnout and Mood Disorders

1-Neurotransmitter and Hormonal Imbalances (chronic stress #9 and #12).

Neurotransmitters and hormones are cell-to-cell communicators, allowing our 200 trillion cells to live together in harmony and cooperation. Some of those neurotransmitters and hormones (e.g., noradrenaline) are involved with driving sympathetic, fight (hate/resentments/anger) and flight (anxiety/fear/panic). At least 12 other neurotransmitters oppose noradrenaline and support the regenerative, healing, rest/digest, parasympathetic nervous system. Any plan to address Depression, Anxiety, Burnout and Mood Disorders must start with an understanding of how to down-regulate noradrenaline and upregulate the hormones and neurotransmitters which oppose noradrenaline (e.g., serotonin, dopamine, taurine, GABA etc.).

2-Cognitive (chronic stress #2).

Irrational demands for approval, perfection, control and fairness are often the driving force behind sympathetic, fight (hate/resentments/anger) and flight (anxiety/fear/panic) chronic stress. These are called irrational because in the human experience, it is impossible to be liked by everyone all the time, to be infallible, to always get your way, or to always be treated fairly. Despite this, many people unconsciously live by these impossible to satisfy demands, and thus live in perpetual chronic stress and distress. This webinar will explain how to rid your mind of irrational thinking.

3-Emotional Disturbances (chronic stress #1).

Emotional disturbances (E-motion = energy in motion) is the preparation for a fight/flight, sympathetic experience. Emotions are commonly thought to be caused by external events or situations (e.g., money, work, spouse etc.) but when they are defined as an internal sensation in the body and experienced directly, one discovers how to disempower external events as a fictitious cause and choose the emotional responses one wishes to have.

This webinar will focus on the methods of directly letting go of emotional discomfort using a mindfulness technique as discussed in the book ADHD Therapy. This approach can even be used to let go of physical pain caused by non-emotional problems, such disc pain in the back and migraines.

4-Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (chronic stress #2).

PTSD is derived from a deeply imprinted traumatic episode of emotional or physical pain from the past, which is replayed over and over like a broken record in one’s current experience. A great deal of energy is expended to avoid, resist or deny PTSD pain, often by medicating it with drugs and alcohol. The old saying, “It is resistance which causes persistence,” is an issue with PTSD because who would even think of stopping the resistance and directly experiencing pain and discomfort.

Even though this is counterintuitive, it is the willingness to let the pain surface (when one is ready) and mindfully re-experience it, which allows it to dissipate. This webinar will focus on ADHD Therapy as an approach to letting go of old traumas.

3 Part Series on Endocrine Stress

(endocrine imbalances, adrenal gland, and thyroid disorders)

1-Endocrine (hormonal) stress – (chronic stress #9). Imbalances of thyroid, adrenal and sex hormones can greatly contribute to fight/flight, sympathetic stress and the total stress load, because these hormones often provide a compensatory response to stress caused by other factors. When this “buffering” compensation is weakened, coping mechanisms can break down, and stress which would otherwise by handled well can seem overwhelming. This webinar will focus on some of the common endocrine imbalances.

2- Special emphasis on “Cortisol Steal,” and osteoporosis, PMS, andropause and menopause.

Cortisol is a misunderstood stress hormone which is released by the adrenal gland to “buffer” or compensate for stress and which improves so-called “coping mechanisms.” The more chronic stress or distress we encounter, the more the adrenal glands will release cortisol, which steals the precursor hormones which it shares with progesterone, testosterone and estrogen, thus depleting or “stealing from” these other hormones. Depletions of these bone protective, mood enhancing, sex hormones causes PMS, osteoporosis, menopausal symptoms, loss of libido and many other problems.

3- Thyroid Disorders

Thyroid disorders are one of the most common endocrine problems. This webinar will focus on thyroid disorders, diagnostic testing, how to support thyroid function nutritionally and the importance of detoxification.

Dr. Gant we brought our son in to see you in 1997. Our son Jordan being diagnosed with ADHD. We have homeschooled Jordan and he has done wonderfully. We used the product “Focus” from NSR for several years. We are trying to find that company or a similar product for him as he enters college. Can you help us with that?

OK, buy the detox PAK and take it twice a day. Take a B complex twice a day. Take tyrosine 500 mg. and seromel (100 mg. of non-Chinese 5HTP), 1 to 4 twice a day, and regularly get epsom salt baths, and that should do it on the cheap.
